The manipulation of open access fees has been a concern within the academic community. Open access publishing offers significant benefits by providing unrestricted access to scholarly research. However, some unethical practices have emerged, leading to the manipulation of fees. This article aims to explore strategies for improving the transparency and efficiency of open access fee management.

It is regrettable that when a journal experiences increased financial success, it implies that they have additional means to promote scientific knowledge through advertising. Nevertheless, their primary interest lies in accepting a higher volume of articles in order to maximize their profits.

Hence, it is crucial to provide support to non-profit journals that prioritize the advancement of scientific knowledge rather than solely focusing on financial gain.

To achieve this objective, we have developed a ranking system that allows for the comparison of journals. According to this ranking system, it is more likely to identify journals that have at least some degree of non-profit orientation.

In that case, we can offer non-profit IFX0 certificates to the identified journals. These certificates would serve as a recognition of their commitment to non-profit principles and contribute to the transparency and trustworthiness of the journals in the academic community.
